My heart is full (+ June 14 Restorative Yoga class)

June 2026

Soul Serenity Notes

My heart is so full. This weekend, I graduated from Kripalu’s 200-hour Global Majority Yoga Teacher Training.

For months, our cohort moved through rigorous online study together, including yoga philosophy, anatomy, pranayama, practice, and teaching. I already felt deeply connected to my classmates, but meeting in person at Kripalu was something special.

During our week together, we became a sangha in the deepest sense. All 20 of us moved through the space almost as one, supporting, checking in, and holding each other along the way. It felt especially meaningful to practice and learn alongside other students of color, with guidance from teachers of color, in a space that reflected that shared experience. We came from many backgrounds and experiences, and shared a common purpose: to deepen our practice and carry yoga into our communities and lives in meaningful ways.

I feel such gratitude for this hardworking, creative, and committed group. I will miss our weekly rhythm, but I know this connection will continue as we support each other’s paths forward.

Another meaningful moment came when one of my classmates, now a fellow teacher, requested a private restorative session and insisted on paying me. It was my first paid private session, and her affirming feedback felt like a quiet and beautiful marker of what is beginning to take shape. Afterward, she shared how meaningful the experience was.

As Soul Serenity continues to unfold, I will begin offering paid classes and private sessions, while still offering occasional complimentary community opportunities.

My next restorative yoga class will be a complimentary community class on Sunday, June 14, 3:15 to 4:30 pm ET. You are warmly invited to join.

May 2026 Soul Serenity Notes See full post on Instagram Dear Reader, I didn’t put my yoga mat away. I came back to find it scratched up—mat, knee pad, and even my yoga blocks. Storm, my black cat, had clearly had a full practice while I was gone. Possible interpretations: A. I didn’t stay in savasana long enough B. She practiced her own version of yoga C. “Tidy up, sistah.” Storm does like to lie on my legs during savasana…so maybe she just missed me. Her body already knows something many of...

Five Quiet Miles

May 2026 Soul Serenity Notes See full post on Instagram in Facebook Dear Reader, I underestimated the Museum of the Shenandoah Valley grounds. What I expected to be a simple walk became five quiet miles—contained, yet expansive. I brought audiobooks and music...but I didn’t use any of it. I walked in silence. Somewhere along the way, I realized I was grieving. My two Bernese Mountain Dogs, who would have loved that trail. My uncle—my godfather—who used to keep me company (by phone) on morning...

April 2026 Breathe & Be with Dr. Dee See full post on Instagram in Facebook Welcome, I recently visited a mentor I first knew as a dean at MIT—brilliant, inspiring, and deeply kind. During the visit, I met her pickleball friends, who were surprised to learn she once held such a powerful role. They know a different facet: the one who shows up to play, laughs easily, and remembers everyone’s stories. The photo I shared earlier this week on Instagram and Facebook was taken last summer, when she...
