Dear Reader,
I didn’t put my yoga mat away.
I came back to find it scratched up—mat, knee pad, and even my yoga blocks. Storm, my black cat, had clearly had a full practice while I was gone.
Possible interpretations:
A. I didn’t stay in savasana long enough
B. She practiced her own version of yoga
C. “Tidy up, sistah.”
Storm does like to lie on my legs during savasana…so maybe she just missed me.
Her body already knows something many of us still resist: rest is not optional.
There’s growing research that supports this. What scientists call deep rest isn’t just relaxation—it’s a state where the nervous system feels safe enough to shift out of stress and into repair. Over time, it supports resilience, recovery, and even long‑term health.
Storm doesn’t need a scientific study to validate that curling up on a warm blanket is a good idea. I notice how often I talk myself out of rest, even when my body is asking for it.
Maybe the practice is simpler than that.
Maybe it’s just allowing it.
This week, I invite you to claim one small pocket of deep rest—
even just a few minutes of savasana.
If you’d like a little support, I’m offering a free online restorative yoga class on May 29 at 7 pm (ET). You’re warmly invited to come rest with us.
